Guide

Pegboard Generator for 3D Printing

Build a custom pegboard on the generator's fixed 24 mm grid. Choose the number of rows and columns, set the board thickness, and select plain or threaded holes. The editor can also generate the matching screw in standard or low-profile form. Download a board, a screw or the set after checking the preview.

What the settings control

Columns and rows
Choose between 1 and 12 in each direction. The 24 mm center-to-center grid is fixed; these controls change the number of holes rather than the spacing between them.
Board dimensions
Width equals columns × 24 - 0.5 mm. Height in the board plane equals rows × 24 - 0.5 mm. Check the resulting dimensions against your printer's usable build area.
Thickness and threads
Board thickness is adjustable from 2 to 12 mm. Threaded boards require at least 4 mm in this generator. Turning threads off creates the plain-hole version.
Matching screw
Select the screw by itself or as part of the set. Standard and low-profile versions change the head style. Generate a sample board and screw together when checking engagement.
Resolution
Resolution changes mesh detail. It does not change the grid spacing or establish a printed dimensional tolerance. Inspect both the geometry and the sliced part.

Starting example: a 4 × 4 threaded board

Four columns and four rows create 16 holes in a 95.5 × 95.5 mm board: 4 × 24 - 0.5 = 95.5 mm in each direction. The default thickness is 8 mm with threaded holes enabled. A 6 × 6 configuration becomes 143.5 × 143.5 mm, so changing the grid count has a predictable effect on the footprint.

  • Columns 4, rows 4, thickness 8 mm.
  • Threaded holes enabled and standard screw style.
  • Preview the set, then inspect the board and screw individually.
  • For an economical fit trial, reduce the board to a small grid before printing the full panel.

From settings to a first print

  1. Measure the space for the board. Use the displayed overall dimensions to choose rows and columns within that space and your printer's build area.
  2. Choose plain or threaded holes, then set thickness. Keep at least 4 mm for threaded boards so the configuration passes the generator's check.
  3. Select the matching screw style and inspect the set. Check the space behind the board as part of the intended mounting arrangement.
  4. Export a small test configuration first. Check the printed engagement before repeating the same configuration across a larger board.

Check accessory compatibility with the actual grid

This tool uses a specific 24 mm grid and its own generated hole geometry. Row and column counts do not convert it into another pegboard system. When adapting an existing accessory, compare the hole shape, center spacing, board thickness and attachment depth with the model.

The supplied screw is the companion to this generator's threaded board. A matching nominal diameter on unrelated hardware is not sufficient evidence that its thread will engage. Test one connection before producing a full set of attachments.

Separate a successful fit from a mounting design

A short printed sample helps you inspect entry, engagement and removal without committing to a full board. Printed mating parts need process-specific clearance; Prusa recommends iterating the fit instead of relying on a universal tolerance.

The generated model does not include a tested load rating, wall anchors or a complete mounting arrangement. Choose the support and attachments for the intended objects, and assess the assembled board in that configuration.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the 24 mm hole spacing?

No. The current editor exposes rows and columns, while the 24 mm grid remains fixed. If an accessory needs another spacing, changing the hole count will not make that accessory compatible.

Why is a threaded board under 4 mm rejected?

The generator requires a minimum 4 mm thickness for its threaded-hole geometry. Increase the thickness or choose plain holes. The minimum is a geometry rule, not a certified load limit.

Can I download just the matching screw?

Yes. Choose the screw in the part selector and select standard or low-profile style. The board and complete set are separate selector options.

Does this include hooks and tool holders?

The current generator creates the board and its matching screw. Design or select any hooks, brackets and holders separately, then check their attachment geometry against the generated board.
